Activities

While we expect that some people will be hanging out and socializing in the days leading up to the wedding, there are no formal, organized activities other than the ceremony and reception. However, there are lots of fun things to do in the Midcoast Maine area, and we hope you can find time to enjoy them!

We've also created a Google Map with some of the pertinent locations for the wedding. Check it out, or click on the image below, to see the spots we want you to know about.

Mainland (Rockland-Rockport-Camden)
Midcoast Maine is beautiful all year round, but especially so in summer.
For the outdoorsy and adventuresome, Acadia National Park is just 90 minutes North of Camden. There are also plenty of hiking and walking paths in the Camden-Rockport-Rockland area, including the lovely Mount Battie.

The Farnsworth Art Museum and the Island Institute (that’s Tim’s dad’s org) are both in downtown Rockland. The Chicken Barn is awesome. Renys is the discount store that sells everything (everything) you never knew you needed, but suddenly can’t live without. Swimming in the ocean is only for the brave.

There's a lot to do on the island as well. You can ride a bike to Booth's or Lawson's -- old granite quarries that have been transformed into public swimming areas, and that are much more reasonable than the ocean, temperature-wise.
Bros at the island's naked quarry. (Booth & Lawson's are for swim-suited bathers.)

You can ride a bike to the massive wind turbines that were installed on the island in 2009 and are the first wind farm on the Maine coast.

Wind Turbines!

For an amazing shopping experience, you can ride a bike to Main Street where you'll find Carver's Harbor Market (groceries), The Paper Store (newspapers), and the gas station - where you can panic at the price of fuel on the island, and then remember you're on a bike and feel relieved.

And finally, you can ride your bike to Rockaway, the site of the wedding, where you can dismount that bike and wander around the Lane's Island Preserve. You'll likely end up at a beautiful beach because there are like a million of them on the island - like seriously, we're all so bored of beautiful beaches, there are so many here.

ALSO, there's canoeing and kayaking and drinking and pizza and lots of fishing boats with clever names.
